President: Olivia Karis-Nix

Olivia Karis-NixAttorney Karis-Nix is Principal Law Clerk to the Honorable Andrew G. Ceresia, Supreme Court Justice in the Third Judicial District. In that capacity, Ms. Karis-Nix researches and analyzes complex legal issues, drafts decisions, and confers with and advises the judge on a range of civil and criminal matters in Rensselaer County, as well as criminal matters in six adjoining counties. Prior to joining Judge Ceresia in 2009, Ms. Karis-Nix clerked at the Appellate Division, Third Department, and was a Legal Fellow for the Honorable Patrick J. McGrath. Ms. Karis-Nix graduated from Albany Law School magna cum laude in 2007 and from Smith College in 2002. She is a native of the Berkshires and is also admitted to practice in Massachusetts.

Ms. Karis-Nix serves as President of the Board of Trustees of the Castleton Public Library, is a founding member of the Castleton-on-Hudson Farmers and Artisans Market, and volunteers as a mentor with Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar. She lives in Castleton-on-Hudson with her husband, Ben, and children, Noah and Serena.

First Vice-President: Jessica B. Mocerine

Jessica B. MocerineJessica Mocerine is Principal Law Clerk to the Honorable Raymond J. Elliott, III, Supreme Court Justice in the Third Judicial District. As Principal Law Clerk, Ms. Mocerine drafts decisions and orders, conducts extensive legal research, performs an analysis of complex legal issues and questions, and confers with and advises the Judge on a daily basis on the variety of civil actions pending before the Court.

Jessica previously served as Principal Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert M. Jacon, Rensselaer County Court Judge and Acting Supreme Court Justice. Before working in the court system, Ms. Mocerine was in private general practice with Judge Jacon at his former law office in East Greenbush. Jessica represented clients on a daily basis on the local, county and supreme court levels of the New York State Court System, at conferences, hearings and trials. She graduated from Albany Law School earning her Juris Doctor with a concentration in elder law and family law in May 2003, and her Bachelor's Degree in political science with a minor in history from Siena College in 2000. Jessica resides in East Greenbush with her husband, Scott, and their three children: Andrew, Brendan and Lauren.

Second Vice-President: Sarah K. Hansen

Sarah K. HansenAttorney Hansen is the Mortgage Closing Attorney for Sunmark Federal Credit Union in Latham, New York. Ms. Hansen represents the credit union with respect to residential purchases and refinances. Additionally, Ms. Hansen is available to represent purchasers in their home purchases.

Ms. Hansen received her Juris Doctor from Albany Law School and her Bachelor's Degree from University at Albany. She is a native of Averill Park and is actively involved with the Averill Park-Sand Lake Fire Department as a Volunteer Firefighter. She is also a member of the New York State Bar Association and Rensselaer County Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Hansen resides in Averill Park with her husband, David, and their three children.

Third Vice-President: Dana L. Salazar

Dana L. Salazar is the managing partner of the law firm of Salazar and Erikson LLP. She graduated from the University at Albany in 1990 and prior to practicing law enjoyed a successful career in business management. She graduated summa cum laude from Albany Law School in 2005 with a concentration in civil litigation.

After graduating from law school, Dana Salazar served as personal law clerk to the Hon. Susan Phillips Read of the New York Court of Appeals (2005-2007). Following her clerkship, Ms. Salazar joined the Trial Practice department at Jones Day in New York, New York, where she worked on a variety of complex commercial litigation cases, including many transnational litigation cases. In 2009, Ms. Salazar returned to the Albany area as an associate at Tabner, Ryan and Keniry, LLP. In January 2015, she was a founding partner of Salazar and Erikson LLP. Ms. Salazar represents clients in all types of litigation and dispute resolution, including partnership and business association controversies, breach of contract and real estate disputes as well as personal injury and property damage cases. In addition, she provides general business support to both start-up and established business owners. Ms. Salazar practices in federal and state court at both the trial and appellate levels and has represented and supported clients in cases involving international parties.

Treasurer: Michael J. Derevlany

Michael J. DerevlanyAttorney Michael J. Derevlany is the principal in the Law Offices of Michael J. Derevlany. A 1996 graduate of Pace Law School with a concentration in environmental law, Mr. Derevlany worked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as well as the City of Troy. Mr. Derevlany also served as a prosecutor in Putnam County from 2000 to 2006 and as zoning counsel for the Town of Putnam Valley from 2000 to 2002. In addition to his JD Mr. Derevlany has an MBA with a concentration in Finance and a BA in Economics and enjoyed a successful career in IT at companies such as IBM, CBS, and Prodigy prior to practicing law.

As an attorney experienced in a wide variety of areas Mr. Derevlany provides effective and committed representation to clients in the areas of Criminal Defense, Real Estate and Land Use, Estate Planning and Probate, Business and Corporate Formation, as well as in other matters.

Secretary: Jennifer C. Shatz

Jennifer C. ShatzJennifer Shatz is Principal Law Clerk to the Hon. Patrick J. McGrath, Supreme Court Justice in the Third Judicial District. In that capacity, Ms. Shatz researches and analyzes complex legal issues, drafts decisions and orders, conducts conferences, and confers with and advises the Judge on a daily basis on the variety of civil actions pending before the Court. Prior to her clerkship, Ms. Shatz was the Bureau Chief of the Special Victims Unit in the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office, overseeing the prosecution of sexually based offenses against children and adults, as well as all crimes against children. She was also the Chief Appellate Attorney for the last year of her employment there, arguing cases before the Third Department and the Court of Appeals. She graduated from Albany Law School in 2003, where she was an Associate Editor of the Law Review. Ms. Shatz is also active in her local community, including the Brittonkill Parent Teachers Student Association and the Brunswick Food Pantry. Jennifer resides in Brunswick with her husband Mark and her daughter Ella.

Immediate Past President: James E. Prout

James E. ProutJames E. Prout joined Martin, Shudt, Wallace, DiLorenzo and Johnson as a partner in 1997. He concentrates primarily in the areas of estate planning, estate administration, real estate law, and commercial mortgage transactions. In the estate planning area, Jim works with clients whose needs include planning for estate tax minimization and creating trusts for management and control of assets, including those for minor and disabled children. He also counsels clients in the area of charitable giving, including the use of planned giving instruments to meet his clients' goals of philanthropy and tax planning. He represents both individual and corporate clients in the purchase and sale of real estate, and in other real estate related matters. He serves as counsel for both lenders and borrowers in commercial real estate mortgage transactions.

In addition to his professional practice, Jim is active in the local community, serving on several not-for-profit boards, including the boards of The Sage Colleges, the Northeast Health Foundation, Inc., the Rensselaer County Historical Society, the Kiwanis Club of Troy, New York, the Eagle Mills Cemetery of Brunswick, New York, Inc., and is currently the Senior Warden of the Vestry of St. John's Episcopal Church in Troy. In addition, he is a past chairman of the board of the Community Foundation of the Greater Capital Region, Inc., a past chairman of the board of the Brittonkill Educational Foundation, Inc., and a former member of the board of the Capital District YMCA.
